The purchase of the paper, pencils, and folders helps the students with their daily lessons while they are being taught and practicing on their IEP goals. My students know where the extra paper, pencils, and folders are located in my room and they take advantage of it daily. The jelly fish lava lamp and the dual monitor has been a real attention getter in my classroom. The jelly fish lava lamp helps to calm down one of my students that has anxiety really bad. The dual monitor screen helps when the students are doing research and completing a report. As a special education teacher in rural South Carolina, this project gave my students an opportunity to be creative with the supplies that were donated. Thank You!! Additionally, this project gave my students an opportunity to interact with other students that they would not normally see throughout the school day. My students crave social interaction and just a sense of belonging, so the Hats Off Hat Bar was the perfect opportunity for this to happen for us. Students around campus would work alongside a group of no more than 3 students from my class selecting patches and an assortment of hats, which are then personalized using a heat press (i.e. The heat press is dangerous and only an adult was allowed to physically heat press all patches onto hats). The peer interaction was amazing; conversation, laughter, creating, just to name a few. The patches that were selected tell a story, and potentially created life-long memories well after their scholastic careers are complete. Donors, you made this possible.
