The resources came quickly and we've already done several lessons with them! We got a total of 17 books to use for read alouds, a set of small plush Spots, and a teacher's guide. The teacher's guide has been invaluable. It's got a lesson or two for every book, but also some fun hands on activities to do with the lessons. One of the great resources it came with is a chart of color-coded faces so that kids can see that sometimes when you're happy, you could really be feeling delighted, or excited, or goofy, or hopeful. Exploring these shades of emotions has been really powerful for our students. \r\n\r\nWe've already done several lessons with the books. So far the kids have enjoy A Little Spot of Love and A Little Spot of Confusion the best. We did the Spot of Confusion first to show the students that we can feel lots of different emotions at once, but that it helps to organize and recognize them so that we react the right way. We did the Spot of Love lesson on Valentine's Day. Then we filled our own Spots of Love and those of someone else at the school by writing an unexpected note to them talking about how much we appreciate them. The notes were honestly, very humbling. They talked about how former teachers had always been there for them, what they liked about their classes, or some wrote to their friends. One student wrote to another how thankful he was that she became his friend because he was scared that coming to our school as a new student would make him lonely. \r\n\r\nThese books have been truly wonderful and we cannot thank you enough. I've actually recommended that our Special Programs department purchase more sets for other teachers. They are so great for helping our students recognize and react to their emotions. I can't wait to dive into more lessons with them.","fullyFundedDate":1733148341024,"projectUrl":"project/a-little-spot-of-emotion-for-our-student/8895636/","projectTitle":"A Little Spot of Emotion for our Students","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Emerling","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp1053094_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1457486516489","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/semerling"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_6351","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":706,"numTeachers":44,"percentFrplEligible":73,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":13,"percentWhite":58,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":21,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"16.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":72.0,"schoolId":6351,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Hammond Hill Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Hammond Hill Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/south-carolina/aiken-county-school-district/hammond-hill-elementary-school/6351"}
