My neurodivergent students have been excited to explore the new sensory materials, hands-on activities, and motivating learning tools. From squishing Play-Doh and exploring the sensory bin to practicing movement and coordination with the spinning chair and hopscotch carpet, these resources help make speech therapy engaging, comfortable, and fun. Most importantly, they allow me to meet students where they are and support their individual sensory and communication needs.\r\n\r\nThese materials are already helping create meaningful opportunities to build communication skills throughout our sessions. Students can practice requesting favorite items, making choices, expressing their feelings, answering questions, taking turns, and communicating using their individual methods, including AAC. The sensory supports help students access the movement and tactile input they may need to feel regulated and ready to participate, while the hands-on activities make learning functional and enjoyable. Snacks also provide opportunities to practice requesting, commenting, and making choices while helping meet students' needs throughout the school day.\r\n\r\nBecause of you, our speech therapy room is becoming an even more welcoming space where every student can feel supported, understood, and successful. We will continue using these resources to build communication, social interaction, emotional awareness, and independence in ways that celebrate each student's unique strengths.
