My students have just finished their unit on Pride and Prejudice, and they absolutely loved the novel. They are looking forward to reading Woman Warrior next.\r\n While reading Pride and Prejudice my students analyze, debated, discussed, and wrote on many ideas within the novel. They had discussions about what Austen was satirizing with her work. They debated the societal rules around marriage in Regency England and now in the United States. They analyze the meaning of the work and how minor characters brought out Austen's meaning. They wrote several essays and analytical paragraphs, but they also wrote creative pieces. My favorite pieces to read from this unit were their imagined proposals of Mr. Collins to Miss Charlottle Lucas. After reading the proposals from Mr. Collins and Mr. Darcy to Elizabeth, the students could not wait to try their hand at a Regency era proposal by Collins to Charlotte. The results were hysterical, and the students truly enjoyed trying to embody the silly character of Mr. Collins. I have included some pictures of the proposals as well as pictures of some of their analytical writing and their annotations of the novel.\r\n Many novels and plays we read in AP Literature are pretty dark and depressing pieces like Hamlet or 1984, so having the opportunity to read a fun satire that also has a very happy ending was a lovely way to end the first semester with my students. They learned so much while enjoying a break from the despair of many of the other works. I truly appreciate that I was able to give my students this opportunity with your support.","fullyFundedDate":1760715915730,"projectUrl":"project/womens-literature/9809917/","projectTitle":"Women's Literature","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Kurzawski","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10048505_orig.jpg?crop=750,750,x187,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1760031827106","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10048505"},{"teacherId":10345513,"projectId":9882257,"letterContent":"These donations of health products is an enormous help to my students who can not always affords these items at home.\r\nThe students stress less when they know that they can come to me for whatever they need.\r\nIn the past I have given students supplies to take home, until their \"parent gets paid and can buy more\". They are quite used to not having access to new materials. We have made due over many years with donations that are not always the best quality. With your donations my students learned to be bolder with their experimentation and exploration of technical strategies. The sound structure of the donated canvases gave students the freedom to pursue a body of rigorous work instead of just making one overly precious project. \r\nOne student made almost a painting a week during that nine week block. They were able to have more than one painting going simultaneously and could rotate canvases in and out while one dried, another was started. The student knew they could come and retrieve another surface as needed and were not limited by material drought.\r\nThe abundance of materials helped stimulate work processes of confidence and bravery in experimentation, broadening and expanding perceptual possibilities. \r\nThese students, in the past, had been taught in such a way, that did not support error or revision due to constant fear of waste.
