They sit and talk through their feelings while drawing a picture, coloring or using one of the activities from the calming kit.\r\n\r\nWe also spend time together building castles when students need a 10-minute reset. Some students request to spend time in my office and they look forward to hanging out for a quiet break time away from their peers. This has been a great space for my gen ed students and also my autistic and emotional support students. They often come in and just look around and I can see them began to relax immediately. As a result we've been able to spruce up our garden for the season, and build a compost stall. \r\nThe compost stall is a dream come true for me personally, but more importantly it's going to be a great resource to help students understand the process of \"making nutrient-rich dirt\" for our own garden. With any garden the goal is sustainability, and this addition will help do that for ours.\r\nGlover Gardens LLC is an incredible organization that supports new gardeners all over the city. The director has a wealth of garden knowledge that she gladly shared with our gardeners. And I am thrilled that this was only the first of three classes we'll be having with her over the next year. I am very excited that our next project will be building a water collection system. \r\nThank you donors, for your generosity and support in making these dream com true. It's been a rough year for our little garden (and for me personally) so fulfilling this grant just made the year's end so much sweeter. The students are really enjoying using the wipe-off graphic organizer boards. For some students its even helped them organize their work better on paper, and for everyone it reduces error because everything is lined up properly. The baby socks are adorable, and the kids love to use them to erase their boards. We've also been playing the math game 24 with dry erase markers on our desk and the students like using the baby socks to clear their desk. That has actually cut down on the pencil graffiti on desks too because they know they get to write and wipe. \r\nThe flash cards have been used in math stations, but also in our rousing Around the World tournament. For this game the winner from the last round hold the deck of cards and shows the top one to two students who race to answer first, and the winner keeps moving \"around the world.\" It gets exciting and very competitive, but most importantly students are practicing multiplication facts. We also use the Multiplication War game in our stations, as well as Clumsy Thief, which was a replacement game. \r\nThe snacks went into our classroom store and students buy them with their points. And the printer ink, well we couldn't get through the year without printer ink. Our curriculum has a lot of sorts and other games that must be printed out. We also create a lot of anchor charts to help notate the methods we're learning, so those get printed and glued in our notebooks. \r\nDonors, from the bottom of my heart thank you for helping with this project. This year has been especially difficult because I've been tasked with teaching all subjects. It had been 7 years since I've taught 5th grade math, so all my math tools and resources had been given away to other teachers. The items you've allowed us to get have really rounded out our math learning space, and we are so grateful.","fullyFundedDate":1737858972755,"projectUrl":"project/the-mathiest-math/9057686/","projectTitle":"The Mathiest Math","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Myers","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp1632025_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1504753030831","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/symyers"},{"teacherId":5907760,"projectId":8981676,"letterContent":"Your contribution has helped provide my students with headphones. These supplies and resources that you've helped us purchase have just made all the difference in our learning community. The printer ink and crayon markers are publishing our narrative stories. Our new pencil monitor is grateful to have a huge stash of pre-sharpened pencils. \r\nWe used the dice trays to play a math game already, and they kept the dice contained and quiet. The tinsel curtain is blocking our door window and keep us safe during lockdowns, but also making our classroom aesthetically pleasing. We got more students, so the green folders came just in time.
