With such a wide range of student needs to service, I am often pulled in multiple directions at once and need to use other tools (chrome books or center supplies) to make sure that my students are successful. When I cannot be there to assist some of my students with their assignments, they can use computers to type their work or they can dictate their thoughts to a program that will type for them. When some are struggling to understand a math concept, they can watch videos about it on Virtual Nerd, Khan Academy, and Brain Pop, and then practice their skills using programs like Think Through Math and Front Row. If we are reading a text in class and students need to hear it read aloud, they can use the audio books pdfs I provide to listen to it during reading time. Technology will never be a substitute for staff members, but when I cannot be there to help my students understand concepts or complete class tasks, it can help the students be successful on their own.
These chrome books and the other classroom supplies can help provide the accommodations that my students require and help them be more independent without relying as much on teacher support.
