The new materials are already being used daily during individual check-ins, small group sessions, and moments when students simply need a safe place to pause, regroup, and talk.\r\n\r\nStudents immediately gravitated toward the games and creative materials. During one small group session focused on teamwork and communication, students used games like Connect Four and Jenga to practice patience, turn-taking, and problem-solving with one another. What began as a simple game quickly turned into a meaningful conversation about how we handle frustration, celebrate wins, and support our peers when things don't go our way. Watching students laugh, encourage each other, and build confidence through play was a powerful reminder of how important these resources are.\r\n\r\nThe art supplies and sensory tools have also become valuable outlets for expression and emotional regulation. Some students prefer to talk through their feelings, while others process best while drawing, coloring, or using fidget tools. Having these options available allows each child to engage in the way that feels most comfortable for them. Even something as simple as offering a healthy snack during a counseling visit helps students feel cared for and supported, especially during long school days.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, the excitement was immediate. Students were curious, eager to explore the games and creative supplies, and grateful to know that people outside of their school community believed in them enough to contribute to their well-being.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, these resources will continue to support our social-emotional learning work with students in grades 3–5. They will be used during counseling sessions, small groups focused on emotional regulation and peer relationships, and restorative conversations that help students reflect, grow, and build stronger connections with one another.\r\n\r\nYour support has helped create a space where students feel safe, seen, and supported. Thank you for investing in their well-being and helping us nurture not only their academic growth, but their emotional resilience as well.","fullyFundedDate":1764600083236,"projectUrl":"project/providing-empowerment-through-emotional/9720873/","projectTitle":"Providing Empowerment Through Emotional Support/Social Emotional Learning Tools","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Simmons","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9284372_orig.jpg?crop=720,720,x0,y280&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1695063974442","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9284372"},{"teacherId":10179716,"projectId":9601133,"letterContent":"When our new materials arrived, my students immediately noticed the changes in our classroom's atmosphere, and they've been using everything daily. The feelings wheel tapestry has become an anchor for our morning check-ins, where students point to emotions and share why they chose them, helping us build a stronger social-emotional foundation. The new cushions and standing desk have transformed our independent work time. During a recent writing workshop, one student who often struggles to stay focused quietly grabbed a cushion, settled into a corner, and wrote more than I've ever seen from her. Another student has taken to using the standing desk during reading groups, telling me it \"helps my brain stay awake.\" Even the simple addition of a reliable pencil sharpener has cut down on interruptions and helped us keep our momentum during lessons, as well as preserve the condition of school materials. And the writing process and grammar posters are my personal favorite, as an ELA teacher! Especially in beginning a more writing-focused unit of the curriculum in the past couple of weeks, I find myself pointing to them constantly to refer to how to construct a paragraph, types of speech, and the writing process.\r\n\r\nWhen the class first walked in and saw the materials set up, their reactions were pure happiness! Several students went straight to the new bookshelf and asked if they could help expand our class library onto it. A few of them especially loved the feelings wheel, and the flexible seating cushions are much beloved for both independent work time and cushions to sit on during direct instruction. My students immediately understood that these additions were meant for them and to improve their learning environment, and it showed in the care and pride they took in using everything.\r\n\r\nThanks to your generosity, we're able to take the next steps in our current literacy and SEL projects. The flexible seating options allow students to choose workspaces where they feel calm, focused, and empowered, and other materials like the sharpener, standing desk, tapestry, and writing process posters help my students stay anchored in the lesson in a way that works best for them. Your support didn't just give us materials: it reshaped the way students see themselves as learners. They are excited to engage with these new materials, and I can already see their imaginations come to life.\r\n\r\nYour generosity not only helps to provide essential tools but also shows my students the importance of giving and community support. It instills in them the understanding that their education is valued and that there are individuals who believe in their potential. This encouragement can make all the difference in their academic and personal growth.\r\n\r\nAs we continue our school year, I will keep you updated on the progress and projects that your donation has made possible.
