Working with students from K- 12 and even college students at a local college. Somehow the discussion about creating a proper signature always comes up. I decided that I would take on the task of teaching our juniors and seniors how to write in cursive. I am so grateful for the supplies that has been donated. The response from the students was overwhelmingly positive.\r\n\r\n\tFirst, we watched a cursive information video and then we discussed our goals for the cursive lessons. The students were very enthusiastic about learning something new. I shared that when I was in elementary school many, many, many years ago, we practiced cursive every day in 1st grade. They were amazed that cursive was mandatory back then. We started with just the alphabet tracing uppercase and lowercase letters. The students completed a cursive tracing worksheet and then practiced the alphabet on their individual white boards. \r\n\r\n\tStudents were called up to the large white board to demonstrate the cursive letters that they learned. The students all joined together to encourage one another as they try to navigate the complexity of this \"new\" way of writing. We decided that we will do cursive lessons each week until for the entire school year. The goal is to be able to write an entire paper in cursive and perfect their cursive signature. We are so very thankful for the supplies, and I am inspired to keep the lessons going each school year moving forward.
