The jumpstart we got receiving so many donations early on the year gives our students a longer to time to read the books and, more importantly, to read more than the required three. \r\n\r\nI have seen big interest especially in grades 5, 6, and 7. Some students have already read their three books. They enjoy what they've read and are quick to recommend a title to another student. More students are asking about nominating their own favorite books when nominations become open again in the spring. Nothing says happy reading like a student gasping, \"I want to read that!\" when a Mountain Laurel book gets returned to the cart. \r\n\r\nThis rejuvenation of reading for pleasure is because of you. Thank you!","fullyFundedDate":1755085145006,"projectUrl":"project/branch-out-with-books/9573088/","projectTitle":"Branch Out With Books","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Kearney","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp667079_orig.png?crop=398,398,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1693240226249","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/667079"},{"teacherId":667079,"projectId":9202553,"letterContent":"Your donation has made the transition from graphic novels to chapter books easier. Students who regularly only check out graphic novels have found favorites with The Dork Diaries, The Popularity Papers, The Treehouses of Andy Griffiths, the My Life series of Janet Tashjian, and the Timmy Failure series of Stephen Pastis \r\nIntroducing these titles into the collection was a happy surprise to graphic novel lovers. Once one of these books was in their hands and the students experienced a book that joined picture with printed story, they were won over. When we first started the project, I booktalked the titles and displayed them in a section of the library. I shelf-talked the books individually to students I knew relied only on graphic novels. \r\nThough students still gravitate toward graphic novels, I have a dedicated group who beg me to purchase more Treehouse and My Life books. Those who loved the Wimpy Kid series can see that there are more choices for them. I do believe in the value of graphic novels, but a steady diet of any one thing--including books--can get stagnant. I am grateful for your generosity enabling me to keep our students' reading needs and wants both satisfied and challenged.","fullyFundedDate":1744201943962,"projectUrl":"project/make-the-switch/9202553/","projectTitle":"Make the Switch","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Kearney","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp667079_orig.png?crop=398,398,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1693240226249","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/667079"},{"teacherId":9379210,"projectId":8975425,"letterContent":"I'm writing to express our sincere gratitude for your incredibly generous contributions of portable stools and erase boards for our mobile small group station. The portable stools provide comfortable and flexible seating, allowing us to gather in various spaces, while the erase boards are invaluable for collaborative brainstorming and interactive lessons.\r\n\r\nThese items might seem small, but they make a monumental difference in our ability to reach and engage students in a more adaptable and personalized way. Your commitment directly enhances the learning experience for countless individuals, fostering an environment where small group collaboration can truly thrive. I wanted to take a moment to extend my deepest gratitude for your generous donation of art supplies to my classroom. Your contribution is truly appreciated, and it will make a world of difference for my students. I have been able to do and plan so many more art projects for my students in Philadelphia due to having access to these supplies. Students have been able to learn about photo realism in shading and coloring by using the prismacolor pencils and markers. They created pop art sneakers in b oth my 5th and 6th grade classes that looked amazing. My students in Advanced Placement art have been thrilled to have quality supplies as they work on an art portfolio of 15-20 pieces for college credit. In addition, a crowd favorite art project that my students love is anything and everything that has to do with clay. This donation will allow me to do both polymer clay projects with my kids, as well as pottery! Art class is so important for our students mental health and they really enjoy the safe space that is created in the art room for them to be artistic, creative and to explore their identity through the arts. The students are already so excited to dive into new projects, and I can see how much they value the opportunity to express themselves through art. Your donation will not only enhance their learning experience but also foster confidence and creativity in ways that will last a lifetime.\r\n\r\nOn behalf of my students and myself, thank you again for your kindness and generosity.
