Since these items were delivered there has been an immediate impact for our students to be able to have a safe space to go and calm down. Students with our more aggressive behaviors have been able to go over to our posters and point out exactly how they are feeling prior to a tantrum! This is amazing growth that I can only thank all of you for! The calm down cube was an instant success, students have been climbing inside to \"look at the clouds\" to help calm down and de escalate. \r\n\r\nWith the tools and fine motor items included my students ask every single day if they can help \"feed\" an animal. So on top of fine motor skills building there has been a huge rise of imaginative play! Our next steps are to help my students continue to generalize their skills across the classroom, school, and home. This will help the students grow both emotionally and utilize their fine motor skills more accurately. \r\nWe could not have seen this amazing growth in their skills without you! They love the chair and rug and are always asking to do their group work at the back of the room or if they can move the nice chair to their table. After inheriting a broken electric sharpener from the last teacher and having all my handheld sharpeners stolen in the first week of school, we desperatley needed a new pencil sharpener. The Afmat is so easy for students to use, and pencils don't get jammed in them. One of the best moments since I started this journey happened during small group time. A student who usually avoids reading aloud lit up after we practiced a new blending routine I learned from these resources. For the first time, they read through an entire decodable book without stopping.
