Because of your generosity, my learning support students are now earning points each day for positive behavior, effort, and academic growth and exchanging them for items like Takis, Cheez-Its, squishies, stickers, and other fun treasures. We use the store as part of our daily behavior and goal-tracking system. \r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, their excitement was priceless! There were gasps, huge smiles, and lots of whispered planning about what they hoped to save their points for. More importantly, they immediately began encouraging one another. The reward store has created a positive classroom culture where effort is noticed and celebrated. It has helped build motivation, self-regulation, and goal-setting skills in a way that feels fun and meaningful to them.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, we are focusing on strengthening independent work stamina and improving reading comprehension skills. Students are setting personal academic goals tied to their IEP objectives, earning points for meeting benchmarks along the way. The reward system continues to reinforce that growth mindset—hard work leads to progress. Because of you, my students are not only excited to learn, but they are also learning that their effort truly pays off. Thanks to all of you, I was able to add new books to the traveling carts for the 3rd and 4th grade students at my school! \r\n\r\nI introduced the students to a class-wide intervention called Partner Reading Paragraph Shrinking. This is proven to help many students improve their reading. This also provides time in text. We were using printed articles to start the year, but now they have the book carts! \r\n\r\nMany students don't like to read. At home, they would rather choose their phones or games. However, these carts are a big hit! The first time the students in one of the third grade classes got to the books, they were so excited. The teacher mentioned how engaged they were. Students are coming up and talking about the book carts and thanking me. \r\n\r\nI'm hoping these books will help them to start to see reading differently and want to read more books in a series that they have read in class or more books by the same author or in the same genre. With this grant, I was able to get multiple levels.
