The snacks have served as a building block to student success. Healthy snacks provide sustained energy, boost cognitive function and enhance memory. Students showed increased focus throughout the morning (our lunch is in the afternoon; therefore students are hungry for a snack a few hours after breakfast) from provided snacks. \r\n\r\nStudents not only appreciate the donation of snacks but also the donation of hygiene products. The Chapstick, deodorants, hair ties, lotions, etc. have given students the confidence boost they deserve. I put out a self care station out for students to take what they need for their personal hygiene. Personal hygiene has also been a building block to student success. \r\n\r\nI am very appreciative of your donations to my fourth grade students. I've loved seeing their faces light up every day they are provided with a snack and resources to hygiene products. Just this week, during a small-group reading lesson, I noticed students who would normally struggle to stay engaged were participating, raising their hands, and finishing their assignments. Having access to a simple snack removed a distraction and allowed them to concentrate on the story and discussion instead of their hunger.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the new supplies, their faces lit up. I would give them one in the morning and one in the afternoon. I think having these extra \"treats\" lessened some of their anxiety throughout the day and gave them something to look forward to during the day. Smiles, gasps, and eager questions filled the room as they explored the kits and imagined what they could create. We frequently use the countdown timer so students have a visual of time remaining for various activities. \r\n Every item purchased has added to our classroom and helped benefit our learning environment.
