So when our LCD writing boards arrived, the children were SO excited to have an easy and forgiving way to practice! They loved being able to write, erase, and try again without worrying about making a mistake. I love them, too, because I can scan the room and quickly see everyone's writing without worrying about missing marker lids or broken pencils!\r\n\r\nNow that our writing books have arrived, we are ready to take the next step in our big kindergarten writing adventure. Our goal is to open our own classroom bookstore at the end of the school year! The books will give my students a real reason to write and will be something they can proudly share with the staff and students who purchase their stories. Knowing that their books will have a real audience will help motivate them to keep growing as writers. These books are also motivating me to continue strengthening my writing instruction so that, by the second half of the school year, my kindergarteners will be writing their own complete stories.\r\n\r\nWe will also be putting our voice buttons to work very soon when we begin independent centers. I can already imagine how thrilled the children will be to push a button and hear their center directions instead of interrupting me while I am working with a small group!\r\n\r\nThese resources aren't just supplies! They are giving my students more opportunities to practice, more independence, more confidence, and more reasons to be excited about learning. You would be amazed at the excitement over the BIG glue sticks instead of the tiny ones that seem to disappear almost as quickly as we open them! We have already been busy gluing all kinds of projects, including Elephant and Piggie creations, the letters in our names, and rhyming word activities and we have so much more planned!\r\n\r\nThe Expo markers have also been a huge hit. There is something much more exciting about grabbing a whiteboard and marker and heading to the carpet to practice reading, phonics, or math than using pencil and paper all day. The students were thrilled to have these supplies available to them, and I love that they allow us to make learning more active and hands-on.\r\n\r\nAnd is there anything better in kindergarten than a fresh box of crayons? Thanks to your generosity, my students can illustrate their writing and complete our projects with beautiful crayons instead of trying to color with little crayon stubs!\r\n\r\nNext, we will continue using these supplies throughout our literacy, writing, math, and art activities. We have many more hands-on projects ahead as my students learn to read, write, create, and share their ideas.\r\n\r\nThese may seem like simple classroom supplies, but they make an enormous difference. Because school funds are limited, these are materials I have traditionally purchased myself throughout the year.
