Drums are a key instrument for the music room. The students enjoy playing the new drums. Besides being durable, they love the animal designs. Fifth-grade finished their World Drumming lesson last week. Third and fourth grade used the drums to perform sixteenth note patterns. In kindergarten, we are currently learning about a steady beat. Our area just finished experiencing the harshest winter on record in 10 years! The snow didn't get a chance to melt for a couple months, the cold was more intense than typical, and the wind was at a higher level of intensity. We missed the sun and students missed being outside for recess at school because of this harsh winter weather pattern.\r\n\r\nHowever, spring has sprung! And though the rains have replaced the snow for our wet season, we have had some warm and dry days to get outside and play for recess on our playground. The students sure noticed the garbage that was hit by snow plows and spread by the wind as it was uncovered as the snow melted. But we sprung into action with our gloves, fluorescent vests, no-touch garbage pincers, and compostable garbage bags.\r\n\r\nOur Lincoln Lion students were so proud to clean up the playground, tennis courts, fences, and rid the wood chips of garbage that students could fall on. In fact, other classrooms asked if they could use the clean up items, my class shared how to do it with them, and invited them to clean up around the perimeter of the building next. Since our first clean up, they ask to pick up garbage with the equipment almost daily. My students are hard workers, proud of their school, want it to be clean and safe, and enjoy giving back to our Lincoln community.\r\n\r\nThis is only possible because of our donors!
