For students who already carried anxiety and stress from outside of school, this small change provided a sense of comfort and allowed them to focus more fully on their learning.\r\n\r\nThese lamps did more than brighten our classroom—they helped create an atmosphere where my students could feel safe, supported, and at ease. They were noticeably more productive, less disruptive to their peers, and better able to work through the learning obstacles they faced.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, the table gave my students a space where they felt supported and able to learn at their own pace. In my years of teaching, I have become pretty good at estimating how many students may arrive without the school supplies they need. This year, however, the need was greater than I could have anticipated. Even with generous donations and supplies I purchased myself, I completely ran out of notebooks and folders, leaving many students without these essential materials.\r\n\r\nThanks to this project, my students now have the supplies they need to stay organized, participate fully, and feel prepared to learn. While notebooks and folders may seem like simple materials, they have a much greater impact. I see the relief and confidence on my students' faces when I say, \"Take out your materials,\" and they actually have what they need. Having their own supplies helps students feel prepared, capable, and valued.\r\n\r\nThis project directly supported a historically underfunded classroom, where more than half of my students come from low-income households. 165 students benefited from this project, made possible by the generosity of 9 donors.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping ensure that my students have not only the materials they need to learn, but also the confidence and dignity that come with being prepared.","fullyFundedDate":1704071766385,"projectUrl":"project/essentials-for-everyone/7820793/","projectTitle":"Essentials for Everyone","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Krauss","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9212380_orig.png?crop=309,309,x6,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1692733993445","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/erin-mazza-krauss"},{"teacherId":6456579,"projectId":10212441,"letterContent":"I wanted to send a huge thank you for your generous donation of our new adhesive toolkit—including super glue, hot glue, and glue sticks! The students quickly discovered that while a glue stick is perfect for paper, heavy-duty cardboard needs hot glue, and intricate fixes require the precision of super glue. By putting the materials to the test, the students quickly discovered which architectural designs held up under pressure and which ones collapsed—leading to some fantastic, real-time problem-solving. This initial run gave us invaluable insights, allowing us to figure out exactly how to adjust and optimize our design challenges to make the curriculum even more impactful.\r\n\r\nBecause these high-quality supplies are durable and reusable, your gift is going to keep on giving. Thanks to the lessons we learned during this year's trial, I am heading into the next school year with a fine-tuned, battle-tested lesson plan that will maximize the potential of these materials from day one. The addition of the *A Little Spot of Emotions* book collection has allowed me to deepen our daily mental health lessons in a way that is engaging, accessible, and relatable. Through these stories, students are learning to identify, name, and manage their emotions—skills that are essential for both learning and life. We use the books to model real-life situations, discuss feelings, and practice positive coping strategies. It is like an expansion on the Zones of Regulation curriculum - much of which the students are knowledgeable in. Reading in our classroom is interactive and reflective; students connect the characters' experiences to their own lives, building both comprehension, fluency, and emotional awareness.\r\n\r\nThe new conversation cards have also transformed how students interact with one another. These \"get to know me\" prompts encourage students to share about themselves, listen actively, and build connections with their peers and staff. For many of my life skills students, social communication can be challenging, but these structured activities provide a safe and supportive way to practice. I've seen students who are typically reserved begin to open up, smile more, and participate in group discussions. These moments are powerful, as they help foster a sense of belonging and community within our classroom.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, the folders have given each student a dedicated space to organize their mental health materials, creating a sense of ownership and consistency in our daily routines. Students take pride in their folders and use them to store worksheets, reflections, and activities tied to our lessons. One student in particular, who often struggles with transitions, has found comfort in having all of their materials in one place, helping them feel more prepared and confident. Overall, these resources have made a lasting impact by supporting emotional growth, strengthening peer relationships, and creating a more structured and nurturing learning environment.","fullyFundedDate":1770074842493,"projectUrl":"project/mr-lucass-mental-health-life-skills-le/9969345/","projectTitle":"Mr. Lucas’s Mental Health Life Skills Lessons","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Lucas","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6273854_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1769212954229","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6273854"},{"teacherId":9021339,"projectId":10002105,"letterContent":"Thank you for your generosity and helping our classroom. Students were deeply engaged, explaining their thinking and building on each other's ideas. The ability to move while sitting helped several students stay focused longer and participate more actively than I've seen in the past. It was incredible to watch students who sometimes struggle with attention remain engaged and confident throughout the lesson.\r\nTheir reactions were pure excitement! As soon as they saw the wiggle chairs, they were eager to try them out. There was lots of curiosity and positive energy in the room. After we reviewed expectations for using them responsibly, students quickly settled in and began using them appropriately. Many have shared that the chairs help them feel more comfortable and focused, and they often ask to use them during different parts of the day.\r\nAs we continue working through our current math units, students will be engaging in more collaborative problem-solving tasks and math discourse activities. The wiggle chairs will support these next steps by helping students stay physically regulated while engaging in deeper thinking and discussion. It may seem small, but having tools that feel new and reliable makes a big difference in their confidence. Several students commented on how much easier it was to keep their work neat and organized, and I noticed more engagement during independent practice.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, we are able to continue building strong problem-solving habits. Our next step is moving into multi-step equation work and applying linear relationships to real-world scenarios. Students will be using their whiteboards to model problems, collaborate in small groups, and revise their thinking as they analyze mistakes and improve their strategies. The extra printer paper is also allowing me to provide additional guided notes and practice materials so students can keep organized math binders and refer back to previous lessons.\r\n\r\nYour support has directly impacted our daily learning environment. It also helps students feel more comfortable and cared for, knowing their basic needs are met while they are at school.\r\n\r\nThe colored pencils have been just as powerful.
