We have been using them during indoor and outdoor recess, and it has been wonderful to see students choosing games, inviting others to join, and learning how to play together. One of my favorite moments has been watching students teach each other the rules to a new game and then laughing and having fun together.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw all of the new materials, they were SO excited! They immediately wanted to look through everything and decide which games they wanted to try first. It was fun to see how something as simple as new recess choices could bring so much excitement to our classroom.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to continue working on teamwork, communication, and problem-solving both in the classroom and during recess. We are focusing on being good classmates, including others, taking turns, and working through disagreements appropriately. These new resources give my students another fun way to practice those important skills while building stronger friendships. The recliner and fuzzy rug, the glowing aquarium that plays music and the very cool new fidget toys scream \"All are welcome\"! Earning trust is often the most difficult part of my job. As a school social worker, I work with children who have been emotionally traumatized so much that learning has to take the back seat to their emotional needs. Having an office that is warm and inviting helps me build relationships and start conversations that are hard to have in the classroom. \r\n The chair that I bought with Donor's Choice money is tear stained and has served as a bed way too often. The Little Spot Books are used school wide by the teachers as well as me in my group lessons. The magnetic sand, pin art and new fidgets give the children something to help with their nervous energy as they try and gain the courage to reveal to me what is hurting them. My new room is extra great for the after-school programs that I run that serve children who have experienced deep trauma. We started in the Art Room but since I received the gifts from Donor's Choice, our after-school program is like meeting in my living room!
