Well, first, we learn about characters! We talk about how they feel, and why they do things. We learn about settings, which is where the story takes place! We learn about problems and solutions, like when Pigeon wants to drive the bus, and we have to figure out if that's a good idea! We learn new vocabulary words, big fancy words, and how to use them! We also learn how to make predictions, like guessing what might happen next! And we learn how to retell the story, which is like telling it in our own words! We practice our reading comprehension, which means understanding what we read.\r\n\r\nWhat does reading look like in our classroom? It's super fun! Sometimes we read together as a whole class, and we take turns reading aloud. Sometimes we read in small groups, so we can talk about the book together. Sometimes we read by ourselves and find a cozy spot in the classroom library. We also get to draw pictures about the stories, and sometimes we even act them out! We have reading time every day, and it's always exciting!\r\n\r\nAre there students who are REALLY enjoying the books? Oh, yes! Little Aryella, who used to be a bit shy about reading, is now a Pigeon expert! He knows all the Pigeon books by heart! And Aira loves the Elephant and Piggie books, and she makes the funniest Piggie voices! And Ryder, who loves to draw, is making amazing pictures of the characters. Everyone is finding a book they love, and it's making them super excited about reading! And we're making a big, sparkly Pigeon out of glitter glue and feathers! We even made a whole little bus for Pigeon to try to drive! It was so funny!
