When I created this project back in October, the school year was in full swing, and the initial excitement of back to school had faded, revealing the very real impressing needs of our student body. As a school social worker, my office is often the triage center for a wide range of challenges – from hunger and anxiety to homelessness and trauma. Because of you, I now have the tools I need to address these challenges with dignity and care. \r\n\r\nI want to start by telling you about the impact of the snacks. In the world of education and mental health, we often speak of Maslow's hierarchy of needs – the idea that a child cannot focus on learning or emotional growth if their basic physiological needs aren't met. The snacks you provided have been nothing short of a lifeline. They have been such a massive hit that, to be honest, I am already almost out of them! While the speed at which they disappeared speaks to the high-level of food insecurity in our community, it also represents hundreds of moments of connection with students. When a student comes to my door, agitated or shut down, offering a granola bar or a pack of crackers breaks the ice. It tells them \"I see you, I care about your basic needs, and you are safe here\". Once their bellies are full, we can finally begin the work of addressing their hearts and minds. \r\n\r\nBeyond the immediate need for food, the hygiene products included in this project have served a deeply critical purpose. We have a population of students and families who are currently on sheltered and facing housing instability. These are families who are doing their best to survive an incredibly difficult circumstances. Because of your generosity, I was able to discreetly provide hygiene kits to several of these families. Providing these kits allows our students to come to school, feeling clean and confident, removing a significant barrier to their attendance and social interactions.\r\n\r\nFinally, I want to share how the social, emotional therapeutic interventions, specifically the fidgets, our transforming my daily practice. These items are in use every single hour of the day. For student struggling with severe anxiety, ADHD, or trauma, sitting still and talking it out can feel impossible. The fidgets serve as a bridge. I have had numerous students who were on the verge of a mental breakdown, grab a sensory tool, work out their physical tension, and slowly regulate their breathing. Having something to do with their hands, allows them to open up verbally and ways that they couldn't before. These aren't just toys; they are essential self regulation tools that empower our students to manage their emotions and return to class ready to learn. \r\n\r\nYour donation has turned my office into a true sanctuary. It is no longer just a room with a desk; it is a place where hunger is fed, hygiene is met, and emotions are managed with compassion. Thank you for seeing the value of my students and for partnering with me to support their well-being. Please know that your kindness has created a ripple effect of positivity that will last far longer than the supplies themselves.","fullyFundedDate":1761864197684,"projectUrl":"project/caring-beyond-the-classroom/9806026/","projectTitle":"Caring Beyond the Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Butz","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10214613_orig.jpg?crop=989,989,x115,y471&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1770044601388","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10214613"},{"teacherId":7480383,"projectId":9582471,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for donating to my classroom! Instead of students juggling loose sheets or using worn-out binders that lose pages, every musician now has a folder that keeps their repertoire secure and organized.\r\n\r\nIn our percussion section, the new storage solutions have revolutionized how we start and end class. In addition, the $100 TeachersPayTeachers gift card has allowed me to purchase engaging supplemental resources, such as rhythm games, practice worksheets, and interactive activities.... that make our virtual and in-person lessons more dynamic and fun.\r\n\r\nThe students were thrilled when the new materials arrived! Many of them shared how excited they were to finally have their own book instead of having to share or look at a screen. The extra resources from TeachersPayTeachers have quickly become class favorites, keeping everyone motivated and adding variety to our daily routine.\r\n\r\nThanks to your support, our young musicians feel more prepared and proud of their work.
