I have several students that have never attended kindergarten this year along with 2 refugee students. We've used the magnetic letters to help with alphabetic mastery, the magnetic word patterns have helped facilitate the learning of those patterns with all my primary students in small group setting, the sand and the trays have been used in a variety of ways to solidify concepts of literacy that we are learning. These resources have been so beneficial to have some of my students engage in hands on activities to help develop their early literacy, language, and fine motor skills during foundational skills time. I used the sand for a dinosaur themed review of CVC words. Students were so excited to be a \"paleontologist\" of words for a day and uncover, read, and write them. \r\n\r\nWith your support I was able to create engaging and interactive phonics and writing skill practice with the resources included in this project. Students were able to identify letters, write the sounds they heard when stretching out words, writing words with patterns we'd practiced in our literacy lessons, and practicing writing their high frequency words. Students were so engaged in the differentiated resources throughout this whole year. Most importantly, this project has taken struggling primary readers to confident readers with the repeated practice of high frequency word reading and word chaining activities. The centers have become a daily part of our learning. I just wanted to let you know that as a donor when you support these projects, you're changing not only the learning environment, but also the lives of so many students. I am so thankful for your support of our classroom learning community. My students and I cannot thank you enough for your generous contribution. I was standing in the hallway and one of my students read the paper I had in my hand that said, \"You can do this!\" and cheered aloud while shouting \"Mrs. Beus, I read that.... I actually read those words. I'm a reader!\" This student started the year in January reading 5 words a minute to reading 50 words a minute in April. With your donation you've built confident readers and for that I cannot thank you enough for your support.","fullyFundedDate":1735236337872,"projectUrl":"project/interactive-reading-materials-to-help-us/8869823/","projectTitle":"Interactive Reading Materials to Help Us Learn to Decode!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Beus","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp2456693_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1470720324537","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-beus"},{"teacherId":2456693,"projectId":8500858,"letterContent":"My project aimed to enhance students' empathy, cultivate a positive classroom culture, and solidify students' emotional intelligence and response to others by engaging with SEL resources that were connected to the experiences they would have in the classroom setting every day. These materials have provided my students endless sessions of using the social emotional skills that we are practicing in the classroom. I am so thankful to have donors out there that are willing to help support STEM skills in the primary classroom. These resources have created hours of skill building throughout the course of this school year. My classroom this year has diverse social, emotional, and behavioral needs. Some of my young students have missed opportunities to socialize and use social skills to cooperatively solve problems and play together. The panda village has been a central part of our hands on learning. Challenging students to build their villages in a specific way i.e. three tiers with an enclosed structure for the rain, creating a place where they can all talk and share about their day, or creating a structure taller than themselves and measuring it. \r\n\r\nThis school year, I have had six students in my first-grade classroom that have never been to school before, and these resources have been a critical component as we learn how to navigate the world and school together this year. The measurement and fractions resources have been instrumental in teaching these concepts to my students in small groups to lay the foundational vocabulary for these big concepts in mathematics. Students in my small groups are able to identify the numerator and denominator in a fraction as well as building fractions in halves, thirds, and quarters. \r\n\r\nI am so grateful that we have donors out there like you that support students' love for learning through curiosity and hands-on learning materials.
