A specific classroom routine we have implemented is our My Feelings Toolkit project. When a student begins to experience sensory overload or emotional dysregulation during the day, we use our new books to help them identify their emotional state. We read through the visual social stories together to find a matching coping strategy, such as deep breathing or taking a quiet sensory break.\r\nA powerful moment occurred recently during a chaotic transition from lunch back to academics, which is usually a high-anxiety trigger for our class. One of my students began to escalate, pacing and crying due to the loud noise in the hallway. Instead of exhibiting a severe behavioral crisis, the student autonomously walked over to our calm-down corner, retrieved one of our new emotional-regulation books with tactile breathing wheels, and sat down. They spent five minutes independently turning the pages and tracing the breathing paths, successfully calming their nervous system down without any teacher intervention. It was an incredible demonstration of self-advocacy and emotional resilience.\r\nThis project made a profound impact on my students' emotional regulation, social communication, and overall engagement. The specialized social-emotional and interactive books provided a concrete, visual way for my students to understand complex concepts like sharing, handling transitions, and identifying big emotions. Because the books incorporate tactile elements and clear social stories, my students remained highly focused during group lessons. I have already seen them applying these stories to real-world classroom situations, using the language from the books to resolve peer conflicts and express their needs.\r\nThanks to these materials, I was able to build a much more inclusive, predictable, and psychologically safe classroom environment. These books allowed me to seamlessly integrate social-emotional learning into our daily academic routine. Instead of managing behavioral disruptions reactively, I was able to proactively use these texts as anchors for morning meetings and counseling minutes. The engaging format of the books made it easy to encourage meaningful peer interactions, active listening, and eye contact among my students, turning our reading time into a powerful tool for building vital life and communication skills. Through your efforts, we are able to bring instruments to even more of our students than before. The amount of gratitude I feel cannot be completely expressed when we have yet to see the full impact of these instruments on generations of children to come.\r\n\r\nThe students think the guitars themselves are beautiful and appreciate the smaller size so their hands can fit better between the frets. The neck rests we bought fit well with the other guitars in the rack, so no room-space has been lost! Everything is as I'd hoped.\r\n\r\nGuitar is beloved in our room, especially in the after-school club, where I have previously had to turn students away for lack of instruments. It is the most popular club in our program, consistently full of eager, hard-working students ready to do some music. Whenever the students have free time, there are always a handful of kids who gravitate immediately to the guitar rack. Along with our other two bars, the students are now able to improvise and play 3 note songs in 6 different ranges in our classroom. Many young musicians are discovering that 'Mary Had a Little Lamb' and 'Hot Cross Buns' can be played on these notes, now.\r\n\r\nThe students were so excited to see another pitch at their favorite station! The bar immediately went onstage to be played during our holiday concert, especially useful during minor-key songs like We Three Kings, Joy Triumphant, and Minka. Now that the concert has concluded, they are excited to take turns improvising during free exploration time and want to create their own music with it.
