Over the past two and a half years, we have produced a daily news episode for the entire school to start their day. Producing a daily news broadcast for the whole school took a toll on our equipment and some of it was being held together by tape. In addition to the wear and tear on our equipment, we also had limited equipment which made it challenging for us to expand the amount of segments we filmed with our program.\r\n\r\nIt was such a joy to start with 7 brand new students this year while also being able to provide them with new equipment that would not only help our production run smoother, but also would give them more experience with how to produce and create excellent video projects. \r\n\r\nWhen I was assigned to produce the HTMS News, I wanted to make sure that I gave our students an opportunity to work with equipment and software that would give them professional experience. Your contribution towards our new equipment has allowed our students to not only create an excellent product, but has also given them experience far beyond what most middle school students would ever be able to access. The designs varied from basic to more complex! Their imaginations and problem solving thrived, and they were able to demonstrate their proficiency for our engineering standard and for our unit standards. \r\n\r\nMost of donations will be able to be used again when we work on our next unit, reproduction, and students will be building a model of asexual and sexual reproduction at the cellular level. I have already had students ask, when is the next time they will be able to work on an engineering project. \r\n\r\nI am so excited for them, for their enthusiasm, engagement, and creativity. This project began with the idea of providing students with snacks as incentives. After this project was funded, a majority of the snacks were not available. This worked out for us, as HTMS has its own PBIS incentives system, Phoenix Feathers. Students can trade in Phoenix Feathers for snacks twice a week at the student store. I shifted from food items to classroom games such as Jenga, Uno, and Connect4. This allowed me to set up an incentive system where students could earn game time. Game time was a great addition to the class, as it allowed for community building. It has been great to see students in class play classic games and foster friendships through friendly competition. \r\n\r\nWe greatly appreciate your donations!
