This addition to our classroom has already made a meaningful impact on both student learning and creative opportunities.\r\n\r\nBefore receiving the slab roller, preparing clay slabs by hand was time-consuming and physically difficult for many younger students. The new equipment has made the ceramic process more accessible, efficient, and fun. Students are now able to focus more energy on creativity, craftsmanship, and problem-solving rather than the physical limitations of clay preparation.\r\n\r\nThe slab roller has expanded the types of projects we will be able to offer in the art room, including functional ceramics, relief sculpture, textured tiles, and larger collaborative works. The quality and consistency of student work has noticeably improved, and enthusiasm for ceramics has grown throughout the program.\r\n\r\nIt has also allowed us to introduce students to tools and techniques used in professional ceramic studios, helping them build real-world artistic skills and a deeper appreciation for the ceramic arts.\r\n\r\nWe are a title 1 school and your support directly benefits our students who struggle. Our art program has little to no funding so a gift like this has a wonderful impact. We are incredibly grateful for your investment in arts education. The opportunities to create with this slab roller will continue to support us for years to come.\r\n\r\nThank you again for your generosity and support.","fullyFundedDate":1769210579472,"projectUrl":"project/slab-roller-for-the-art-room/9961174/","projectTitle":"Slab Roller for the Art Room","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Khalsa","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp5968538_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1544050629228","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5968538"},{"teacherId":3544293,"projectId":9740110,"letterContent":"You would be smiling so BIG if you could see the excitement in the library as students line up to shop for items like pencils, scented bookmarks, charms, and stickers. They also love to carefully select rentals like fidgets, dry erase markers for doodling, or the option to relax in a comfy bean bag during our lesson. As thrifty teachers we are creatively brainstorming fun experiences and ideas that cost $0, but items like fidgets, snacks, markers, stickers, and more are consumable items that will need to be replenished. Federal funding challenges this year have shrunk our school budget for incentives, but we want to continue to support and thank all of our hardworking kids who make great choices each day. Thanks to donors like you, and our amazing GMS Climate Team, these items are all free for our students to enjoy with the use of their incentive points. \r\n\r\nAs students have begun to spend their points on these fun extras in the library the overall willingness to engage and participate to EARN more points has definitely improved. Students can earn these points by being on time, being prepared, participating in the lesson, checking out library books, helping with clean up, and other positive behaviors each day. While I always emphasize student choice and engagement in our learning it is so easy for them to connect the perks they look forward to with positive choices that will accelerate their learning and build our community in the library space. \r\n\r\nEvery teacher at George Middle School has their own store, but thanks to you all and your generosity the GMS Library continues to offer the coolest pencils, the plushest bean bags, the trendiest charms and stickers, and the experiences that make the library a special place for all of our students. The fluorescent mineral kits were an absolute sensation, and the students were completely blown away by the vivid demonstration of chemical concepts. We used the kits to bring complex ideas to life, discovering that a trace element that causes a glow is called an activator, and observing firsthand the difference between immediate UV fluorescence and the persistent glow known as phosphorescence. We even had a real-time discovery of phosphorescence in the thunder eggs! The kits allowed us to explore nuances like the effect of power levels, such as seeing a mineral (activated by manganese) change dramatically from pink under low UV power to orange under high power. This hands-on, multi-sensory lesson was both incredibly fun and highly educational, and your contribution has directly helped create a truly unforgettable core memory for these students.","fullyFundedDate":1757539885355,"projectUrl":"project/the-luminous-lab-unearthing-glowing-gem/9639368/","projectTitle":"The Luminous Lab: Unearthing Glowing Gems","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Hoda","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9568782_orig.png?crop=840,840,x0,y5&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1772123678546","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9568782"},{"teacherId":5968538,"projectId":9715225,"letterContent":"I am writing to express my heartfelt gratitude for your generous grant, which has provided my classroom at George Middle School with drawing supplies and Buddha Boards. As a middle school art teacher working primarily with minorities, recent immigrants, and at-risk students, your support has had an especially meaningful impact on our community.\r\n\r\nThanks to your contribution, my students—many of whom face significant challenges outside the classroom—now have access to high-quality art materials that encourage creativity and self-expression. The Buddha Boards have become a wonderful resource for practicing mindfulness and emotional regulation, helping students to find calm and focus during the school day.\r\n\r\nYour investment in our classroom has not only enriched our art curriculum but has also given my students opportunities to build confidence, express themselves, and discover new talents. Students have almost a year to read 16 books before a challenging trivia competition in March. Giving them time over the summer to start their reading kept our energy high and focused on the competitive season ahead. \r\n\r\n\"The Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB) is a statewide voluntary reading motivation and comprehension program sponsored by the Oregon Association of School Libraries in conjunction with a Library Services and Technology Act grant. Students in 3rd-12th grade, regardless of ability, are exposed to quality literature representing a variety of literary styles and viewpoints.\r\n\r\nOBOB's mission is to encourage and recognize students who enjoy reading, to broaden reading interests, to increase reading comprehension, promote academic excellence, and to promote cooperative learning and teamwork among students.\r\n\r\nOBOB is run primarily by volunteers through the Oregon Association of School Libraries (OASL) and funded partially through the Library Services and Technology Act, LSTA.
