My students get very excited when it is a day for a crunchy snack. Our school receives fresh fruits or veggies twice per week for snack. We had been concerned that the program, which used to be everyday, was going to be dropped altogether. Crunchy snacks are available on days when we do not get the fresh fruits or veggies. We also were able to purchase fruit snacks, which is the easiest to share with the students when I have a substitute teacher in the room for the day.\r\n\r\nOn Fridays, we eat any leftover fruit and vegetables from earlier in the week, and the crunchy snacks are also available for what we call Seconds Day for anyone who is still hungry. This has been a BIG hit, especially when we have so many food insecure families. Some students get all their meals from school, so tasty, crunchy snacks is always a plus. We also have a student with a peanut allergy, making snack choice a great benefit, knowing they can safely enjoy peanut-free snacks. From our youngest learners experimenting with pinch pots to our older students creating detailed forms and vessels, each class has been able to experience the excitement of working with three-dimensional materials. For many, this has been their first chance to sculpt with clay, and it has opened up new ways to explore texture, form, and creativity.\r\n\r\nYour generosity also made it possible to launch a 3D Art class for middle school students, where clay projects serve as a foundation for more advanced exploration in sculpture.
