But, with the addition of just one more balance, that is has made it easier for our students. \r\n\r\nThis balance is also a quality product. It measures within 0.02 grams, which is necessary for our labs. I know that it was a little more than the normal request, but it was so worth it. My students and I really appreciate your support in this large purchase that would have taken my fiscal year budget to purchase. \r\n\r\nThis was only my second Donors Choose project and the DonorsChoose Community really pulled through. During independent reading and writing time, especially during our argumentative writing workshop, the fidgets have helped students stay calm, focused, and confident as they tackle challenging academic tasks in our phone-free classroom. Even during \"Family Friday\" activities, when we build community and play team-based games, students love using the Rubik's cubes and coloring pages as part of their fun breaks. The snacks have also made a big difference for students who come to school hungry or power through long days with sports, clubs, or jobs; having food available keeps them regulated, comfortable, and ready to learn.\r\n\r\nTheir reactions when the materials first arrived were priceless; excitement, curiosity, and even relief. Some immediately began solving the cubes, others gravitated toward the coloring supplies, and several students were grateful for the snacks. The atmosphere in the room felt calmer and more supported almost immediately. These tools have also helped us transition into the next steps of our current research and writing project, where students need sustained focus for brainstorming, drafting, and peer review. The materials help them stay engaged through each stage, giving them the confidence and energy needed to produce their best work.\r\n\r\nThanks to this project, my students are participating more, staying on task longer, and feeling more successful. I've been able to plan longer, more rigorous lessons knowing students have healthy ways to manage restlessness and hunger without relying on their phones. We are doing statistics and calculating percent change in mass of carrots after being in salt water. It is a small thing, but has had huge impact. \r\n\r\nWe have also been using the magnetic graphs for tutorials in AVID class and they have been a huge timesaver because students aren't trying to draw a sketch of a graph while trying to get help with their point of confusion. Students who struggle with attention (and honestly, even those who don't!) have found them incredibly helpful for staying focused. The play-dough, fidget spinners, Rubik's cubes, and coloring books have all been big hits — so much so that students now ask if they can bring them along to the library for guest speakers and other events.\r\n\r\nIt's been amazing to see how something so small can make such a big impact on focus, engagement, and even classroom morale. This is a student who often comes to school late, but she has been making it to my class on time more lately. This is just one example of how your donation is directly influencing the lives of my students, helping them focus in class even when they arrive at school hungry.\r\n\r\nAfter I shared with students about the donation, the class has actually been discussing healthy foods, talking about hunger in our community, and sharing their ideas about how to make healthy snacks more available school-wide. We have had several class discussions about food insecurity, lack of healthy food options in schools, and the connection between healthy food and mental health. Now that we are having these conversations, students are more interested than ever in how they eat, what their performance is like in school when they have skipped a meal, and how that affects their mental health. \r\n\r\nWe are so grateful for your support, which is making a real difference in my classroom and helping my students reach their full potential.\r\n\r\nThank you again for your generosity.","fullyFundedDate":1731623561869,"projectUrl":"project/support-mental-health-with-healthy-snack/8940492/","projectTitle":"Support Mental Health with Healthy Snacks","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Ediza","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp363857_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1532375111606","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ms-ediza"},{"teacherId":363857,"projectId":8940521,"letterContent":"I want to express my deepest gratitude for the books you helped fund for my classroom. My students absolutely loved reading books by sports heroes Tommie Smith and Colin Kaepernick as we explored the theme of standing up for one's beliefs. Some students even shared that they hadn't finished a full book since middle school, but these books kept them engaged, and they read both cover to cover.\r\n\r\nThe graphic novel format of these two books especially helped struggling readers succeed in this unit. One of the most powerful moments I witnessed was when two boys—one a new immigrant from Romania and the other recently from Eritrea—worked together to understand the books. Despite language barriers, they were able to bond over their shared love of sports and support each other in decoding the meaning of the stories. \r\n\r\nThank you so much for allowing me to respond in real time to my students' needs.
