My students are a low-income and culturally-diverse student population in an urban community. 75% of our students receive free/reduced lunch, and there are many homeless students. Almost 1/5 of the school community is foreign born; this is nearly double the population for Oregon in general. Approximately 50 languages are spoken amongst our students and their families. These range from Spanish, Hmong and Vietnamese, to some of the least spoken languages in the world, such as Togan. Our student newspaper has one of the largest and most diverse staffs in the region. The students regularly win awards for their journalism, including 3rd place for the print paper and 2nd for the website at this year's state competition. We do not receive any funding from the school for computers, cameras., or printing.
