While chargers may seem like a small resource, they make a tremendous difference in our students' ability to learn and participate throughout the school day.\r\n\r\nTechnology is an important part of how our students learn. Students use their Chromebooks to complete assignments, research topics, access instructional materials, practice language skills, and use tools such as translation, digital dictionaries, text-to-speech, and speech-to-text. Having reliable access to a charged device means students can use these resources when they need them instead of missing learning opportunities because their battery has run out.\r\n\r\nWhat is most exciting for students is simply knowing that they can count on having the technology they need. They no longer have to worry about watching their battery percentage or being unable to finish an assignment because their Chromebook is about to die. Having chargers available gives students the freedom and confidence to fully participate in technology-based activities.\r\n\r\nOur English language learners have especially benefited from this resource. Many rely on translation tools, language supports, and digital resources to understand classroom directions, learn new vocabulary, and communicate their ideas. Students who use accessibility features such as text-to-speech and speech-to-text also benefit from knowing their devices will remain powered when they need these important supports.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has helped remove a small but very real barrier to learning. The duct tape has also come in handy for labeling their Chromebook chargers so they don't lose them!\r\n\r\nAnd for the first time in my career, I didn't have to be stingy and overly-protective of my Sharpies!\r\n\r\nIt felt really wonderful to have all this available to my students. The kids had a blast with this project. For the first time in my 20 years of teaching, I didn't have to be stingy with the tape! I've never felt like I could let kids use the card stock either(because I've always purchased it myself).\r\n\r\nNot only did students get creative with the 3D shapes they made, but they understood volume and surface area much better when they were done. They'd struggled with surface area and nets, but when they started to create them, it went much better. Some kids were able to retake their quizzes after the project, because it improved their understanding a lot!\r\n\r\nThis time of year, I'm usually scrambling for supplies. The glue sticks have all been used or dried up, the rulers are broken and/or bent, and colored paper is nothing more than a fantasy. This project was so much more fun, simply because I was able to provide everything the kids needed to do it without having to leave multiple times to ask other teachers for what supplies they have. \r\n\r\nAgain, thank you so much! We used the beach balls to play modified volleyball and students with disabilities were able to enjoy this popular game with their classmates. The best part was seeing their smiles and good teamwork that included students from all ability levels. \r\n\r\nThe other equipment, badminton racquets and footballs, that this project funded has helped students practice the skills necessary to play these fun and popular sports in PE. Students at Milwaukie High School enjoy throwing the football outside and working on the essential strategy of the game - Practicing route passing. Also, our students can be seen most days playing badminton with classmates in the small gym. I heard things like \"Oh my gosh, it's so much lighter!\" and \"Now I can get all the way to the tip!\" and \"it's so clean and smooth!\" Using a bow that is too heavy create massive tension in the fingers - exactly the opposite of what we are trying to achieve with good bow holds! All of that tension can be heard in the tone. Additionally, it makes the player's hand sore, and that is no fun at all! Now the students know their bows as they don't have to trade the small bows around. When they get mixed up on the rack, I hear about it and they straighten them out themselves. It is wonderful to see them taking such ownership of their school instrument. Even though I can show them on the board or tell them concepts, it isn't until they have to write things out themselves that the true processing takes place. The marker boards are fun and the markers colorful, making it an experience that's enjoyable to create and re-create. Because they are easily erasable, students are not afraid to make mistakes like they are on paper. \r\n\r\nIn the beginner class today we learned to draw the treble, bass, and alto clefs accurately, which side of the note heads the stems go on, when the stems go up and when they go down. They learned the proper spelling for the terms they have heard all year like pizzicato, staccato, legato, detache, arco, and even cello and bass! \r\n\r\nIn the older class tothey filled measures with the accurate note values in both simple and complex meters to go along with a mixed meter piece they are playing. The collaborative features are also a big hit, as students work together, compare strategies, and celebrate each other's success. \r\n\r\nTechnology based games like the Nintendo Switch game have made a meaningful difference in how our students engage with math. Interactive tools allow them to visualize concepts that can otherwise feel abstract, such as graphing functions or exploring transformations.
