With these new texts, our students are developing sophisticated \"reading muscles\" that they'll use for the rest of their lives.\r\nStudents aren't just asking what happened, but why the author chose to tell it this way. They are learning to spot bias, understand subtext, and question the narrator's reliability.\r\nThese books act as \"windows and mirrors.\" For many, they are a mirror reflecting their own lives for the first time; for others, they are a window into a culture or experience vastly different from their own.\r\n\r\n\r\nIf you walked into our room during literacy you'll see kids feeling brave to read aloud, build upon their knowledge and skills, and the teachers listening to the growth their student have had. You'd see clusters of students huddled over a single page, debating a character's motives with the intensity of sports fans. You'd see margins filled with colorful sticky notes, and you'd hear the low hum of Socratic seminars where I'm not the lecturer, but the moderator. The books aren't just sitting on desks; they are being lived in.\r\n\r\nThere are a few specific faces that come to mind when I think of your impact the \"Reluctant Reader\", the \"Quiet Observer\"; all taking risks in reading these texts. \r\n\r\nThank you for understanding that a book is more than paper and ink—it's a tool for building smarter, more empathetic humans. We are so grateful to have you in our corner.","fullyFundedDate":1764700326931,"projectUrl":"project/a-love-for-literacy/9752236/","projectTitle":"A Love For Literacy","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Inafuku","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3808757_orig.jpg?crop=3024,3024,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1582686718292","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3808757"},{"teacherId":3097655,"projectId":9602463,"letterContent":"I can't begin to share how much excitement the new books have sparked in our classroom. It has been a joy to see the level of engagement students have towards books this year, and it's all thanks to your donations!\r\n\r\nMy small groups have been actively using the specialized skill books weekly. These books have been a lifesaver as they match our weekly lessons, and they allow students a quick support to show their skills. Then there are the mini games that also align with our weekly literacy skills that the students have absolutely loved. They request the games every day for their small groups as it's a fun and engaging way to show what they have learned. \r\n\r\nI can't express enough how much your donations have helped my students and me this school year with our growth and love for literacy. The scented markers allow students to create fun and expressive art projects, while the bridge-building kits encourage them to think critically about different ways to engineer and solve problems.
