Throughout the pandemic I have been sending home, or personally delivering, materials to my students so they have activities that are hands on, so not all learning is entirely on the computer. However, due to economic challenges we are in, getting art materials for my students to use has become difficult. Providing hands on materials increases student understanding. Having these art materials will help my students show their understanding of math and science through a creative outlet. Their projects are a way to express their understanding of science and math concepts by using the right side of their brain, that creative side, instead of just repeating back to me facts that have no connection their understanding of the world around them. My students will use art to convey information about pollinators and their role in plant growth. Students will also incorporate geometry into art as they learn about shapes, vertices, and angles. I want them to have a fun way to play around with math concepts and share unique understanding and perspectives of what they are learning.
