Because of the generosity of our donors, my classroom—our Success Center—has become a place where students feel supported, safe, and ready to learn again. Every item that was donated has played a role in helping students regulate their emotions, reflect on their choices, and return to class with a fresh mindset.\r\n\r\nWe use these new resources every single day. The calming tools, sensory items, and comfortable seating have helped create an environment where students can pause, reset, and refocus. For example, when a student comes into the Success Center feeling overwhelmed or frustrated, they now have options. They might choose to sit in a calming chair, use a sensory tool, or take a few quiet moments with a fidget or mindfulness activity. After they have had time to regulate, they complete a behavior reflection sheet where they think through what happened, which BEARS expectation they may not have followed (Bravery & Perseverance, Empathy, Accountability, Respect, or Self-Control), and what they will do differently next time.\r\n\r\nOne powerful moment that stands out happened shortly after the materials arrived. A younger student came in very upset after a conflict on the playground. In the past, this student might have shut down or struggled to communicate. This time, he immediately gravitated toward a sensory tool and a soft seating space. After a few minutes, he was calm enough to talk. He used the reflection sheet to explain his feelings and even identified that he needed to work on Self-Control. Before leaving, he said, \"I feel better now. I can go back and try again.\" That moment was a direct result of the environment our donors helped create.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, their reactions were priceless. There was excitement, curiosity, and—most importantly—a sense of ownership. They were eager to explore the tools and quickly learned that this space was designed to help them, not punish them. Many students have since referred to the Success Center as a place where they can \"reset\" or \"get back on track.\" That shift in perception has been huge for our school culture.\r\n\r\nThe snacks that were donated have also made a significant difference. Many of our students come to school carrying more than just academic challenges, and sometimes a small snack helps meet a basic need before we can even begin addressing behavior or emotions. Being able to offer that care communicates to students that they are valued and supported.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, these resources are allowing us to take our work even further. Our next steps include integrating more structured social-emotional learning (SEL) lessons into the Success Center. We are beginning to use the materials to teach specific skills such as identifying emotions, practicing coping strategies, and repairing relationships when harm has been done. Students are not just resetting—they are learning lifelong skills.\r\n\r\nWe also plan to expand opportunities for students to reflect and set personal goals. Using the tools provided, students will begin tracking their progress in areas like Self-Control and Empathy. This will help them see their own growth over time and build confidence in their ability to make positive choices.\r\n\r\nBecause of our donors, this is no longer just a space where students come when something goes wrong—it is a place where growth happens. Your generosity has helped us create an environment rooted in care, accountability, and second chances. Our students are learning that mistakes are not the end of the story—they are opportunities to learn, grow, and try again.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in our students and for making such a lasting impact on their lives.","fullyFundedDate":1768536345762,"projectUrl":"project/supplies-for-my-success-center/9973230/","projectTitle":"Supplies for my Success Center!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Mckinney","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7643987_orig.jpg?crop=1860,1860,x1130,y839&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1605400183048","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-mckinney-pe"},{"teacherId":9172833,"projectId":10006977,"letterContent":"Because of your generosity, our after-school book club has become a space where students can come together to read, think, and share their ideas in a meaningful way.
