I try to provide my students with a minimum of 30 minutes of reading time each day where they get to pick what they read. I want to provide them with more options that are relatable to them. Many of the stories we read in class are not relatable or interesting to them. I plan to have a checkout reading log for the kids to bring books home to read because they are not supposed to bring their library books home. I also want these kids to be so so excited that they want to bring books home to read.
