Thank you so much! We have started a unit on classroom percussion instruments and it has been a blast! Students across all grade levels K-5 have been playing, exploring, moving, and creating with our new instruments! \r\n\r\nSo far, the triangle seems to be an all around favorite. It's so exciting as a teacher to be able to put an instrument in every kids hand.\r\n\r\nOur favorite activity so far has actually been created out of a folk dance! We took the circle dance The Rakes of Mallow and adapted some of the movements to add in instruments. We put a variety of our new instruments in the shape of a circle and perform the movements of the folk dance during the A section of the song. During the B section, students stop and pick up the instrument that is in front of them and perform a musical pattern that goes with the music. Then we repeat until the song is over. There are so many ways that we are planning on learning through our recorders. After Thanksgiving Break, my students will begin learning simple so-mi songs that they have learned to sing already. Since we have already learned some simple unpitched percussion arrangements, we can now layer on a recorder melody! We got to learn the form for the song \"It's Raining Tacos\" and then created different movements with the parachute to accompany the song. Then we even added mini taco plushies to go on top of the parachute so it could really rain tacos! Everyone loved it, and my students are already begging to create more musical movement using the parachute. We are using our paper, colored pencils and glue to assist with learning activities that help make school more fun. We used some of the glue to build paper stages for \"Rock Your School Day\", the stages had to hold 50 pennies. The kids loved this activity and enjoyed doing something outside our normal routine. \r\nWithout the generosity and support from the public, and other organizations, enhancing our school day would be a challenge.
