They also help students learn about different types of severe weather and understand why knowing about these events can help keep them safe. These books allow us to connect reading with our STEM projects, making our science learning more meaningful and engaging. Students are also learning about a new genre of books and developing an interest in reading historical and real-world stories.\r\n\r\nWhat does reading look like in your classroom?\r\n\r\n Reading in my classroom is more than just reading words on a page. My students read independently, participate in whole-group and small-group discussions, make predictions, ask questions, make connections, and discuss what they have learned. With these new books, students are able to connect what they are reading to our STEM projects and see how the information in a story can relate to real-life situations. I love watching students become excited about a book and want to continue reading to find out what happens next.\r\n\r\nAre there particular students who are especially enjoying the new books, and how so?\r\n\r\n Yes! I have students who may not always choose to read independently who are especially interested in these books because the stories are exciting and connect to real events. The I Survived series gives them a purpose for reading and helps them become more engaged because they can imagine themselves experiencing the events alongside the characters. Students who enjoy science, weather, and adventure have been particularly excited about these books, and I am hoping this excitement will encourage them to explore more books and genres in the future.\r\n\r\n Thank you so much for investing in my students and helping bring reading and STEM together in such an engaging way. As we started to unbox all of the items, I explained that we would be doing many gardening projects thought-out this year in different growing environments and seeing how our weather can affect the different growing conditions.\r\n We immediately decided that we wanted to grow some fall lettuce in our mini greenhouses as they were impatient and wanted to see results as soon as possible. We researched how long it would take to see germination, how much to water the seedlings and how often.
