Now my students do not have to share the xylophones or take turns with each other during center time. This is also our very first wooden xylophone, so now the students can hear the differences between a metallophone (a metal xylophone) and a true wooden xylophone. This donation is going to be very useful during center time, and has been useful when we were learning how to play the instruments as a full class.\r\n\r\nI recently had my full-class lesson on how to play the xylophones, so we could start using them during center time. This is where we line up the instruments at the front of the class, the front four students play the instruments, and follow along with a video. The song they played was an accompaniment to \"Pass the Pumpkin\" for fall time. After the front five students receive their turn, they rotate to the back of the line. At the back of the line, they practice with paper xylophones, so when they make their way back to the front of the line, they know their part even better. The students absolutely loved playing with the new instrument, and are super excited to play with it during centers, where I give them a little more leeway.
