We were in great need of a new classroom carpet, as our previous one was worn and stained. In our classroom, we spend a great deal of time learning, building relationships, and creating a sense of family. Having a comfortable and inviting space to gather together has made a tremendous difference.\r\n\r\nI wrote this grant to provide my students with a safe and welcoming place to come together—not only to learn our academic standards but also to learn about one another. In second grade, much of our instruction takes place on the carpet during whole-group lessons. This new rug keeps my students off the cold tile floor and gives each child a designated space of their own. Having individual spots helps eliminate conflicts over \"who sits where\" and allows students to practice personal space and respectful communication when resolving small disagreements.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite ways to begin the school year is with social-emotional learning (SEL) lessons that help us build a strong classroom community. We truly become a \"classroom family,\" and this sense of connection continues throughout the year. Our new carpet has become the heart of our classroom—where we gather each morning for our meeting to share celebrations, news, and special moments. It's also used daily for flexible seating, partner work, reading, and group activities. Every day in our classroom begins and ends on the carpet, making it one of the most important parts of our learning environment.\r\n\r\nI am deeply grateful to each donor who helped make this possible. Your generosity has created a space where my students can feel safe, comfortable, and connected. Thank you again for supporting our classroom family and helping make this dream a reality.","fullyFundedDate":1754502987154,"projectUrl":"project/creating-a-welcoming-learning-space-with/9378108/","projectTitle":"Creating a Welcoming Learning Space With a Classroom Rug","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Crawford","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp375475_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1748562279313","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/375475"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_87510","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":578,"numTeachers":33,"percentFrplEligible":69,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":64,"percentIndigenous":22,"percentLatinx":5,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"17.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":66.4,"schoolId":87510,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Dewey Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Dewey Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/oklahoma/dewey-independent-school-district-7/dewey-elementary-school/87510"}
