Before, we sometimes had to rely on digital copies, which meant students were spending even more of their school day looking at a computer screen. Having actual books in their hands has made reading feel more engaging and gives them a much-needed break from technology.\r\n\r\nWe use these books for much more than simply reading a story. Students practice important skills like identifying themes, analyzing characters, making inferences, learning new vocabulary, finding textual evidence, and discussing how a story connects to the world around them. We read together as a class, independently, and sometimes in small groups. Students are also able to annotate, participate in discussions, and really dig into the text instead of just scrolling through pages on a screen.\r\n\r\nOne of the best parts has been seeing students who normally aren't excited about reading become more interested when they have a physical book in front of them. There is something different about being able to hold a book, flip back to an earlier chapter, and see your progress as you read. These books will be used by my students for years to come, and I am incredibly thankful to everyone who helped make that possible!","fullyFundedDate":1778010262850,"projectUrl":"project/real-books-for-real-readers/10138096/","projectTitle":"Real Books for Real Readers","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Cook","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8895806_orig.jpg?crop=884,884,x0,y185&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1670880085159","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8895806"},{"teacherId":8725398,"projectId":9556608,"letterContent":"This impacted us so greatly in which we were able to have a successful competition year in which we made it to playoffs for the first time since starting this program last year. I cannot speak enough to how much improvement we as a school have seen in the accomplishments they achieved.
