My students spend a lot of their day learning, and I quickly realized that not every child does their best work sitting in a traditional chair at a desk. Now they can grab a cushion, stretch out on our rug, find a quiet corner, or choose a spot where they feel comfortable and ready to work.\r\n\r\nI have loved watching them learn what works best for them. Giving my students choices has helped them take more ownership of their learning while also learning responsibility. They know that if the spot they chose isn't helping them focus, they need to make a better choice and move somewhere else.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, flexible seating has helped our classroom feel like their space too. My room may not always look like a traditional classroom—and there may be kids scattered all over my floor —but they are comfortable, engaged, and learning. These materials have given our classroom the tools to do exactly that. We now have scales, graduated cylinders, magnets, measuring tools, and so many other supplies ready for investigations throughout the year.\r\n\r\nBecause we are still early in the school year and have spent quite a bit of time outside our normal classroom schedule, we haven't had the opportunity to use every item yet—but that honestly makes me even more excited about what is ahead! As we move through our science units, these materials will allow my students to measure, experiment, make predictions, collect data, and learn through doing.\r\n\r\nThank you for giving my students opportunities to experience science instead of just reading about it. Fifth graders are naturally curious, and now when they ask, \"What happens if we try this?\" we have the tools to actually find out. With your donation, my students have been given a choice in how they can focus, learn and engage in our daily lessons as well as during our silent reading time. The flexible seating and desks gives my students an option on how they choose to focus and engage in the lesson that is best suitable for them. The flexible seating options help fidgety students focus more on work, rather than the other things that can be distracting to them. \r\n\r\nI believe students should be given suitable classroom choices and with these classroom changes, my students now have those options. My students were absolutely thrilled the moment the box arrived and dove right in. That very first day we unpacked everything and began using our new dry-erase boards and erasers during math; they've become a staple in class and we use them almost every day for solving problems, peer practice, and quick formative checks. Having individual boards has made math more hands-on and immediate: students confidently try problems, erase quickly when they need to revise, and share strategies with table partners without the fear of making a permanent mistake.\r\nOne standout resource has been the giant magnetic coordinate graph. We recently turned it into a full-class game modeled after Battleship: the large graph served as the class \"map\" while each table group created their own oversized coordinate planes to play on. The energy and engagement were incredible! My students practiced plotting and reading coordinates repeatedly while collaborating and cheering each other on. This activity was a real game changer for building confidence with graphing, and we'll be using the boards and the magnetic graph again for targeted review sessions leading into state testing to sharpen those skills even more.
