With our 3D printers and the filament provided through this project, students are learning that technology is not only something they use—it is something they can use to create.\r\n\r\nMy students have been especially excited to design their own projects and then watch the 3D printer build their creations layer by layer. They are learning important skills such as 3D modeling, measurement, problem-solving, creativity, and how to improve a design when the first attempt does not work as expected.\r\n\r\nSome students who are usually less engaged with traditional classroom assignments have especially enjoyed these hands-on projects. Seeing their own designs become physical objects gives them a sense of accomplishment and motivates them to try new ideas.\r\n\r\nThe filament provided by our generous donors allows my students to experiment, make mistakes, redesign, and create again. Most importantly, this project is helping students see how the skills they are learning in our 3D Techniques class connect to real-world careers in engineering, manufacturing, architecture, technology, and design.
