The materials I chose will help my students appreciate and fall in love with literature as young adults. As a first-year educator, I want to create a classroom library extensive enough to meet all of my students interests and expectations as they scan my classroom library. The material I chose for my project explores many different themes, cultural backgrounds, and genres that will help my students become interested and engaged in reading. I want my students to read about people similar to them, activities they enjoy, and themes they find engaging. More often then not, students in large, low-income districts are forced to read literature that has little relevance to their own personal lives. In simple terms, I want my students to have access to culturally relevant works that promote literacy. I believe that with access to great literature, my students will strive in the classroom and become life-long learners through literacy.
