The addition of a multi-color 3D printer gave students opportunities to design, problem-solve, revise, and create in ways that strengthened both their academic skills and their confidence.\r\n\r\nStudents used Tinkercad and other digital design tools to create original models and prototypes connected to engineering, entrepreneurship, and cross-curricular learning. Watching their digital designs become tangible creations helped students develop perseverance, critical thinking, and pride in their work. For many of my scholars, having access to personal care items like combs and brushes was not something they could always count on at home. By providing private, culturally affirming grooming kits tailored to their individual hair textures and needs, this project helped students feel seen, respected, and cared for in a meaningful way.\r\n\r\nWhen students felt confident about their appearance, it directly impacted how they engaged in the classroom. Scholars who felt good about themselves were more likely to participate in discussions, read aloud, collaborate with peers, present their ideas, and take academic risks. These kits helped remove small but significant barriers that affected students' self-esteem and focus throughout the school day.\r\n\r\nThis project also reinforced important life skills and habits. Students learned responsibility, self-care, and pride in their personal appearance while embracing and celebrating their natural hair and cultural identity. The message behind this project was powerful: they were worthy of care, dignity, and confidence exactly as they were.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, these grooming kits helped create a classroom environment where students showed up feeling prepared, empowered, and ready to succeed. The impact extended beyond academics—it nurtured emotional well-being, built self-worth, and reminded students that they mattered.
