Your generosity transformed our reading corner from a few worn volumes into a bright, inviting library that sparks curiosity every day. With these new texts, we introduced skills such as close reading, making inferences, comparing perspectives, and identifying theme and character development. Many of the books also build background knowledge across science and social studies topics, so students are practicing reading for information as well as for pleasure.\r\n\r\nReading now looks lively and purposeful in our classroom. Students begin independent reading time by selecting a book that interests them, jotting a quick goal, and then practicing strategies we've modeled—visualizing scenes, asking questions, and annotating key lines. Small groups meet with me to work on comprehension skills using leveled texts from the new collection; other students lead book-talks to share what they noticed and why a particular book mattered to them. The bright new covers and contemporary content have noticeably increased stamina: quiet reading stretches from 10 minutes to 25–30 minutes for many children.\r\n\r\nSeveral students have been particularly transformed. A sixth grader who used to avoid chapter books recently finished a historical fiction novel and proudly wrote a book review to share with peers. An English language learner became more confident using picture-rich nonfiction to practice vocabulary and content-area words, which boosted both reading and class participation. And a small group of reluctant readers now choose books independently during free time and have begun recommending titles to classmates. Your gift didn't just bring books into our room—it changed how students see themselves as readers. Thank you for supporting their growth and excitement for learning.","fullyFundedDate":1761938479829,"projectUrl":"project/from-limited-shelves-to-limitless-storie/9722895/","projectTitle":"From Limited Shelves to Limitless Stories","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Mickley","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10187636_orig.jpg?crop=1935,1935,x604,y1270&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1755550941921","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10187636"},{"teacherId":10063025,"projectId":9436728,"letterContent":"I want to take this opportunity to thank you for opening my students eyes and hearts to the knowledge that there are people in this world that care about them. Their eyes lit up as they explored the new space, some immediately grabbed a book and curled up in the soft seating, while others excitedly shared what they were reading with their classmates. The transformation of our reading hall has made a huge difference in their motivation and focus. I've noticed students who were once hesitant readers now choose to spend more time reading independently, and our small group discussions have become livelier and more thoughtful.\r\nAs we move forward, we plan to use this space not only for reading but also for creative writing and storytelling sessions.
