My students have access to the computer lab on our floor once a week for 50 minutes. The computer lab itself had headphones, but they are now broken and most do not work. This creates a problem for my students. When my students are on their computers, they are completing their Math lessons online that provides with videos, guided practice, and short quizzes. This is all read out loud to them and when the students are being loud or many of the instructional lessons are playing at a time, it overlaps and disturbs the class. The students cannot focus on their instruction, complete their lessons, or listen to what is being taught due to the lack of headphones. This project will allow my students to stay focused on their instruction. The headphones would be a class set. Although I have 36 kids, in a classroom I only 20 in one class and 16 in another, so the students in both classes could use them at different times. Allowing students to use something as simple as headphones creates an environment where they can focus on what they need to focus on (their math lessons) in order to succeed. It will also keep them away from distractions of others and noises. As for the speakers, those are going to be used to play instruction videos on i-Ready and allow students to listen to what is being said before it is explained. I only have a projector in my classroom and no speakers, so when videos are played, they are played at a computer level without any speakers and my students can barely hear what is going on.
