By studying various authors, my students will forge a deeper attachment to books and become a community of readers. Author studies will help my students form closer connections through shared reading experiences and be influenced by an author to further expand their reading experience. Author studies will also help students develop their reading skills and build their critical thinking skills such as learning to compare and contrast, themes, analyzing text and illustrations, and making connections to their own life. An author can become a writing mentor for my students as they read and study his/her work and respond to it through a variety of writing activities. This will help my students build confidence in their own writing and inspire them to become authors themselves. My students will be exposed to different types of literary voices and styles. After completing the author studies, my students will write their own "stories" where they will publish their story for our Author's Tea. Parents will be invited to attend where my students will share their published work as an AUTHOR!
