Students crowded around the boxes asking, \"Are we really going to grow food in class?\" and \"Can we eat what we grow?\" Their curiosity quickly turned into deep engagement as they began setting up the system and making predictions about plant growth.\r\nNext, we'll be harvesting our first batch of greens and exploring topics like food systems and environmental responsibility. The resources have been used to make a connection between previously taught learning targets and individual goals. Hands on materials (manipulatives) allow them to show what they've learned. Scholars can use the resources during instructional and free time. \r\n\r\nStudents are allowed to work together at the small group tables which gives them an opportunity to build on learned academic skills and increase positive peer interactions and social skills. On one occasion two students were able to sit together and work with Associate Teacher on counting objects, colors, sorting and putting puzzles together. It was awesome to see them sit together for a long period of time. Bean bags are used in our break area for students that need a sensory break or time to play together. \r\n\r\nThe puzzles helped with letter recognition and for some of our scholars who love letters they enjoyed lining them up and placing them on the puzzle. This helped to improve letter recognition. Students will continue to use the material to assist with learning and those identified skills; for example, rhyming words, counting objects bears or puzzle pieces, positive peer interaction. Instead of using worksheets students will have hands on materials that they can touch, feel and learn from. \r\n\r\nWe thank you from the bottom of our HEARTS for your donation/contribution to our classroom.
