My students need as much exposure to literacy as possible through a variety of activities. Different activities that will focus on phonemic awareness as well as letter and sound recognition are essential. They need ways to apply what has been taught through audio visual activities as well as hands on. Dry erase boards are essential for practicing how to write letters and numbers through actively writing them. This provides hands on activities for practicing their alphabet. Audio books that relate to phonemic awareness as well as other areas of fiction provide schema needed for them to go farther within the components of learning how to read. These are materials that aid the auditory as well as visual learner. We are also in need of a center activity that reinforces all reading components so that they are on their way to become an excellent reader. The smart pencil actually talks to them when they are pointing to various pictures on a given picture board providing feedback for the at risk student. This provides reinforcement with hands on experience for the visual, auditory and tactile learner. The Yacker Tracker is a device that determines noise level throughout the classroom, letting students know about noise level within the room. It is designed like a traffic light providing signals on whether or not the noise level is appropriate within the classroom. Our students will use these materials to explore their ability through reading comprehension, writing letters, and learning phonemic awareness activities. This is the building block to becoming a good reader! These activities will be used during Learning Center times throughout the day as we read and write while learning together. Your generous donation to our project will improve our Kindergarten classroom by building a stronger reader and writer through their individual learning style.
