The expressiveness came from them making a face on their mug. In order for them to love what they created even more, the glaze and other tools that you were able to provide for us through your donation made it possible for them to drink from their mugs. \r\n\r\nThey were so excited to receive their mugs after they were fired in the kiln. Thus far they have been doing practice work, bell work drawings, and brainstorming, some of which you can see in a photo. \r\n\r\nThey all had big smiles and rushed to get their sketchbook in their hand. \r\n\r\nMy students are currently working on learning the fundamentals of drawing and line control while practicing for an upcoming project on how to draw flowing realistic ribbons that also incorporates the fundamental of tone and value through shading. They kept telling me that more people could glue at the same time and they didn't have to stay by the outlets. Each time I told them that it wasn't a problem and that what we have works. \r\n\r\nThen I was in that class and saw them in action. I realized that plugging in three glue guns around the room and making students wait their turn could be improved. These cordless glue guns fixed all of that, we still have the corded glue guns, but we have added the cordless option. They charge on the power strip and students can get them as needed. Wait time to use the glue guns has dropped and students aren't standing in line. \r\n\r\nWe did a great project where students sewed a gingerbread man and stuffed it. Students were able to add embellishments by gluing them on and most students chose to use the cordless glue guns to do that. Students were really excited to learn about hot air balloons, but they were much more excited to build a hot air balloon. Most of them kept asking if it was really going to work and they were pretty proud of themselves when it did. While students learned about thermodynamics, buoyancy, and density, they learned some other valuable skills as well. This project built some strong student bonds as they measured, cut, and glued their hot air balloons. They also had to constantly check their building and test their work to make sure there were no gaps. My students created very colorful flower designs and patterns on the shrinky dinks using the permanent markers. They watched them change shape while they were in the toaster oven. They built the BristleBots and ended up with a great product to take home. The supplies in the kit were good quality and the directions were easy to follow. I had not originally planned to use the kit with the class I did, but after looking it over, I decided it was the perfect STEM topic and project for the class I used it with. It was really nice that none of the parts were tiny so that even the students who have difficulty with fine motor skills were able to participate. At the end of class they were racing their bots around the tables and they were so proud of what they had built. They recently painted their backgrounds and wrote out their words using the same stencils so they are unified. \r\n\r\nWhen they saw the size of the canvases they were a little surprised that they were so big but still excited.
