The instant feedback on the display screens allows them to collaborate on the spot, review their shots critically, and continuously refine their techniques as a team.\r\n\r\nThis technology has made a profound impact on several of our students who were previously hesitant to participate in written or public-speaking activities. During our first two club meetings, students helped set up our native pollinator garden by adding plant labels, learning about the native plants, setting up the hose holder, and placing bird food. They were incredibly thankful to see the materials that donors made possible and were eager to jump in and take ownership of the garden. One especially memorable moment happened while we were setting everything up: a student spotted a butterfly in the garden, and her whole face lit up with excitement! It was such a wonderful reminder that the ecosystem we are creating is already inviting wildlife into our school grounds.\r\n\r\nNow that the garden is underway, our students are moving into the next phase of our project: using STEM to design ways to support and study the ecosystem. Students have hit the ground running, designing 3D-printed bug hotels in Tinkercad, and they will soon design water cups for our garden visitors. Next, students will begin monitoring the garden and collecting data about insect and bird activity. They will use coding and data analysis to investigate how factors such as soil, temperature, humidity, and light may affect the pollinators visiting our garden. What began as an empty learning space is becoming an interactive ecosystem where students can observe, design, experiment, and learn from the world around them. One of the most meaningful moments happened during a math activity where students used tactile materials, enlarged print resources, and assistive technology to help solve math problems. For some students, it was the first time they were able to independently access every part of the lesson without constant adult assistance, which was a huge confidence boost.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, there was a lot of curiosity and excitement as the students tested the adaptive tools and compared how different resources helped them read, write, and participate more independently. The VI students were especially enthusiastic about the tactile and hands-on materials because they made abstract concepts feel more concrete and accessible.\r\n\r\nThe support from donors has opened the door for us to expand independent learning opportunities even further. Our next steps include using these materials in ongoing lessons focused on daily living skills, literacy development, and technology integration. Students will continue building confidence with assistive tools while working on collaborative projects that encourage communication, problem-solving, and self-advocacy. Many of them immediately put on their aprons and started exploring each item, eager to try something new.\r\nSince then, the cooking club has become one of the most joyful places. Students have already made fresh lemonade, no-bake cookies, pancakes with homemade butter, and even apple turnovers. One of our favorite moments was watching them shake jars of cream to make butter; they cheered each other on and proudly spread their creations on crackers afterward. Our cooking club also loves taking charge of the whole process—from measuring ingredients to washing dishes at the end. When the boards arrived, students literally cheered and immediately jumped in to help assemble them so we could begin using them right away. Thanks to the support of our amazing volunteers, the boards were quickly put together and put to use.\r\n\r\nIn the photos, you'll see one example of students thinking critically about the relationship between multiplication and division. They were challenged to use the digits 1–9 exactly once in a division equation—with a three-digit dividend and a one-digit divisor—to create the smallest possible whole-number quotient. Working in groups, students collaborated, tested ideas, and used the boards to visually display their thinking as they searched for the most efficient solution.\r\n\r\nStudent feedback has been overwhelmingly positive—they love being able to share their thinking so openly and are already looking forward to their next vertical learning experience.
