With a global pandemic, we have been utilizing outdoor spaces like never before. We have students who are braving the pandemic and coming back into the school building to learn. In order to keep everyone as safe as possible, we have been taking our learning outside. From reading groups to science experiments to a simple math assignment; we have been taking clipboards out to our schools' basketball court to learn. Our basketball court is on our school's playground, so we are limited to the amount of time we can spend out there due to recess and other classes using it as well. Our kids have been so great and so flexible about taking our materials outside to learn, but they are getting a little tired of always sitting on the ground. We also go to school year-round and the summers are hot! We would love to utilize the shaded areas outside of our classrooms for different learning opportunities. That is why we are asking for picnic tables. We need durable tables to be able to weather the elements. Speaking of weather, one of our science units is the weather. These tables would be perfect to take the lessons outside to observe the clouds, complete our wind experiments, and use weather tools and instruments. We also have a quarter-long reading module where students learn about pollinators and the process of pollination and the germination of plants. These picnic tables would be located near our school's garden beds where students can observe firsthand how this process takes place. With all that our kids have been through in the past year, we would love to show them how appreciative we are of their hard work, perseverance, and flexibility with new picnic tables for them to use!
