As a middle school resource teacher, I work with students who have a variety of learning needs, and having engaging, accessible texts gives them more opportunities to experience success with reading.\r\n\r\nWe are using the books to strengthen important skills such as vocabulary, reading fluency, comprehension, identifying main ideas and supporting details, making inferences, and citing evidence from the text. The books also allow us to practice reading strategies in a way that feels meaningful and engaging rather than just completing another assignment.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom may look a little different for each student. We read together, work in small groups, discuss what we have read, practice new vocabulary, and break texts into manageable pieces. Students receive the support they need while also being encouraged to become more independent and confident readers.\r\n\r\nOne of the most exciting parts has been seeing students become interested in books and willing to participate in reading activities. For students who have struggled with reading or have not always viewed themselves as successful readers, having books that capture their attention can make such a difference.\r\n\r\nThank you to the Atlanta Braves Foundation for supporting our classroom and believing in our students. Your generosity has provided more than just books—it has provided opportunities for our students to build skills, confidence, and a love of learning. We are incredibly grateful for your support. The new learning materials you provided have added excitement and structure to our daily lessons—especially during our small-group math and reading rotations. Students are using the hands-on resources, task cards, and interactive activities to strengthen critical thinking and problem-solving skills while having fun at the same time. It's amazing to see how these tools have transformed what used to be \"boring practice\" into engaging, confidence-building moments of success.\r\n\r\nThe day we unpacked the materials, my students' eyes lit up! They couldn't wait to explore the manipulatives, games, and activity sets—immediately diving into friendly competitions to solve math challenges and vocabulary puzzles. One student proudly said, \"It feels like we're learning and playing at the same time!\" That joy and curiosity have carried over into our daily routines, with students now asking to use the materials during independent and small-group work time.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to continue using these resources to build mastery across multiple subjects while reinforcing teamwork and perseverance. The students are working on setting personal growth goals—tracking their own progress in math fluency and reading comprehension—and celebrating each milestone they achieve. Your support through this project has empowered them to take ownership of their learning, stay sharp, and believe in their potential every single day.","fullyFundedDate":1759704695864,"projectUrl":"project/helping-middle-school-minds-stay-sharp/9433004/","projectTitle":"Helping Middle School Minds Stay Sharp!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. CotaRobles","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9372848_orig.jpg?crop=1242,1242,x0,y289&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1700578370105","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9372848"},{"teacherId":9372848,"projectId":9432681,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generous support, our classroom has become an even more welcoming and mindful space where students feel seen, valued, and safe. The resources from Stronger Together: Supporting Mental Wellness in Our Classroom have transformed not just our physical environment, but also our daily routines and the way students connect with themselves and each other. The calming tools, journals, and mindfulness activities you helped provide are now part of our \"Breakfast Club\" social-emotional learning sessions, where students begin their day reflecting on gratitude, emotions, and positive coping strategies.\r\n\r\nOur students have embraced these new materials wholeheartedly. They love using the new mindfulness journals and SEL storybooks to express their feelings and explore themes of kindness, empathy, and resilience. Reading looks different in our classroom now—it's not just about comprehension or fluency; it's about making real-world connections and finding emotional balance. One student who often struggled to focus now starts his mornings writing quietly in his gratitude journal and proudly sharing one thing he's thankful for each day. Another student who was hesitant to speak up during group discussions now volunteers to read aloud from our new wellness books, helping her peers connect the stories to their own experiences.\r\n\r\nYour kindness has helped build a classroom culture where students understand that mental health matters as much as academics. Every day, I see them learning to regulate their emotions, support one another, and build confidence in their voices.
