Having access to engaging, high-interest texts has given my students more opportunities to practice important reading skills while also developing a love for reading. As we read, students are working on skills such as identifying theme, analyzing characters, making inferences, using text evidence, and discussing how authors develop ideas. The books have also given students opportunities to explore different perspectives and connect what they read to their own lives.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom looks different every day. Sometimes we read together and stop to discuss important moments in the text, while other times students read independently or work with classmates to share their thoughts. One of the best parts of receiving these books has been watching students become excited about reading. I have seen students eagerly ask to keep reading, talk to their friends about what is happening in their books, and recommend books to one another. Some students who were previously reluctant readers have found books that genuinely interest them, which has helped build their confidence and willingness to read.\r\n\r\nThank you to everyone who supported this project. Your generosity has helped put meaningful books directly into the hands of my students and has created opportunities for learning, discussion, and enjoyment. These books are more than just classroom materials, they are helping students discover stories, build important skills, and hopefully develop a lifelong love of reading.","fullyFundedDate":1787585054921,"projectUrl":"project/engaging-readers/10416404/","projectTitle":"Engaging Readers","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Robbins","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp3087022_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1453866139724","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/cindymarotta"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_121234","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":262,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":57,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":15,"percentWhite":50,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":25,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":6,"gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":91.7,"schoolId":121234,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Innovation Academy on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Innovation Academy","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/north-carolina/johnston-county-public-school-district/innovation-academy-south-campus-opens-aug-2017-/121234"}
