We are able to have thematic units that incorporate skills across our curriculum. This has allowed my students to make connections and explore different topics throughout the year. We've used these texts to introduce fiction and nonfiction as well as partner different nonfiction books with a fiction book about the same topic. \r\n\r\nIn our classroom, we read the same book for 3-5 days to help students work on foundational skills like turning pages, identifying author/illustrator and other text features. We also use the repetition to help us answer questions and retell the story.
